Outboard Covers Australia (OCA) was founded when the current owners Leanne & Geoff Felgate went on a holiday caravaning to Darwin back in 2000. The towing vehicle a 4wd had a boat loader on the roof and outboard mounted to the rear door. During the journey from Perth to Darwin (via Adelaide) the outboard appeared to be getting stone damaged and the cowling slightly marked. Geoff knowing that the motor was $3,500 new (Yamaha 25hp) decided that a cover would need to be purchased and went and spoke to the local trimmer in Darwin. On asking questions about the cover the trimmer would provide it was decided that the cover was way to expensive for the size of the outboard ($500.00) and would not be suitable being made in vinyl that could scratch and sweat. Leanne and Geoff decided that this would be their next business and Outboard Covers Australia was launched. Leanne being the qualified sewer and Geoff would make all the patterns neccasary the team got stuck into their new venture.

SInce then the business has grown to employ local staff and has expanded to most parts of the globe with local distributors in these Countries. With 90% of the marine dealerships in Australia selling the product & the public being able to buy directly from our web site the product has grown from strength to strength. All the products are proudly still made right here in Western Australia and are shipped and exported around the globe.

OCA is currently working with the British Ministry of Defence, local Government services here in Australia and plan to release some of these "special" covers to the public in the near future. "Special" meaning that one of the prodcuts we are currently testing is a "sound reducing cover" and final tests should be completed by the end of this year (2011). Watch this space.....

HISTORY:

Geoff and Leanne Felgate founded Outboard Covers in 2000 having towed their motorboat and realizing at first hand the damage caused to an uncovered engine. The covers available at the time were simply not suited to their task - made of canvas or vinyl, in a one-size fits all design, they flapped,scratched, faded and rotted.

Over the next two years Geoff developed the product, researching the optimum materials and manufacturing process, making patterns for over 800 outboard engines - covering all models from 1970 to date. In 2000 the factory opened and OCA is proud to have made over 40,000 tailor-made engine covers that are protecting engines all over the world.

In 2006 James Abrahams became the European distributer,.

OCA now manufactures bespoke branded covers in the UK/EU for Suzuki , Yamaha, Evinrude and Mercury and continues to develop its commercial client base supplying custom-printed covers to The Ministry of Defence, The RNLI and Mark Warner Holidays.

" Anyone can make a cover that's a fact and we hear it all the time from the Boat Shows we attend. But to make a cover that will not sweat, is breathable, we make a cover that has tensile strength of 300lb's. Make each cover fit a particular make model and size including leg or transom height and finally does not void your warranty, these covers are pretty special " .

" We have seen other companies try and "copy" what we do but with little or no success and this is due to the 2 solid years of hard work prior to launching this product to the market place and myself taking ultimate pride in every cover that leaves our factory. As the owner I do not sit behind a desk controlling staff, I am the guy that answers your questions, prepares the artwork for your cover should you have any and the guy that invoices you manually to ensure every detail is correct. My lovely wife is in control of the factory floor and staff and again we both love what we do and take pride in our premium made product.
