When would I need to use a PERMATRIM?
Trouble getting on the plane quickly:
A Permatrim enables a lot more control of trim angles and the ability to eliminate porpoising, to plane at a lower speed
If your outboard motor is cavitating when cornering and taking off:
By increasing the size of the factory cavitation plate, by up to four times. Permatrim reduces the chance for the propeller to create an air pocket - the cause of cavitation.
Improving Fuel Economy:
Because boats fitted with a Permatrim have more lift in the stern, the hull performs more efficiently when on the plane, as well as being able to plane at lower speeds. More efficiency must result in fuel savings.
Trouble with the nose of the boat slapping up and down (porpoising):
Porpoising is when the boats bow slaps up and down or even chine walking this is when the boat wobbles from side to side on the plane, Permatrim normally stops this as well.
Wanting to maintain a slower speed at planing:
By forcing the water the propeller normally throws out the top, downwards and rearward, Permatrim gives more thrust and lift.
If you have to tuck your motor under your boat when trimming it in and it does not make that much difference:
This would clearly mean that your boat and motor and weight etc do not match. Permatrim is a cheap way of righting a lot of the problems associated with all of the above.
From my own experience I found the PERMATRIM to be excellent. I run a 3.9m Quintrex with a Yamaha 25hp (twin carby) and the motor is the maximum size for that boat. When I go fishing by myself and I have the battery, fuel tank and the 52KG motor and myself all down the back of the boat, getting up on the plane is a problem. It use to take around 12 seconds for the nose of the boat to drop down, now with the PERMATRIM fitted it all takes around 4 seconds and the boat seems to be more stable a 25 knots & able to take corners sharper at higher speeds without risk and without cavitation. Each PERMATRIM comes with a money back g/tee which is comforting to know and each PERMATRIM comes with fitting instructions which when followed are easy to fit!
